Nuclear&Power

Steam generators are heat exchangers used to convert water into steam from heat produced in a nuclear reactor core. They are used in pressurized water reactors (PWR) between the primary and secondary coolant loops.

In typical PWR designs, the primary coolant is high-purity water, kept under high pressure so it cannot boil. This primary coolant is pumped through the reactor core where it absorbs heat from the fuel rods. It then passes through the steam generator, where it transfers its heat (via conduction through metal) to lower-pressure water which is allowed to boil.

A feedwater heater is a power plant component used to pre-heat water delivered to a steam generating boiler.Preheating the feedwater reduces the irreversibilities involved in steam generation and therefore improves the thermodynamic efficiency of the system. This reduces plant operating costs and also helps to avoid thermal shock to the boiler metal when the feedwater is introduced back into the steam cycle.

In a steam power plant (usually modeled as a modified Rankine cycle), feedwater heaters allow the feedwater to be brought up to the saturation temperature very gradually. This minimizes the inevitable irreversibilities associated with heat transfer to the working fluid (water).

The Pressure vessels (cylinder or tank) are used to store fluids under pressure. If the pressure vessel is designed to separate the gas at upper portion from a gas-liquid mixture, generally is called column. The remaining liquid is collected in the bottom and often chemically pretreated for subsequent refining processes.

Belleli supplied worldwide several Critical Columns for refinery, petro-chemical and gas plants, such as distillation Column, fractionator, absorber, C3/C2 splitter, Demethanizer, etc.

Specially developed neutron shielding material is installed in the concentric space between the main body and the outer shell. Heat conductor plates made of copper are longitudinally welded along with the main body and outer shell through the neutron shielding layer.

Inside the cask cavity, basket assembly consisting of 69 separated square pipes made of boronated aluminum is installed to space spent fuel assemblies, and has the functions of accommodating them and of sub-criticality control.

A pair of shock absorber made of wooden material covered with stainless steel plate is installed at both ends of the cask to absorb impact energy and alleviate the impact force imposed on the cask and its content in a drop accident.

ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) is an international nuclear fusion research and engineering megaproject, which will be the world's largest magnetic confinement plasma physics experiment.

It is an experimental tokamak nuclear fusion reactor that is being built next to the Cadarache facility in Saint-Paul-lès-Durance, in Provence, southern France. Design composed of Vacuum vessel, Breeder blanket, Magnet system, Additional heating, Cryostat, Cooling systems.

This contract was successfully implemented by Belleli, and the conclusion of the R & D on the prototypical component became part of the Specifications for the ITER project, to be built in France over the next decade.

Belleli thanks to his previous experience in the conventional and unconventional nuclear sector as the performer of the mock-up of this project participates in the project as a subcontractor of Walter Tosto S.p.A.
